Math 212-02: Intro Multivariable Calculus (Spring 2018)

• Text:  James Stewart, Multivariable Calculus, Eighth Edition
  
• Course content: 12.1-12.5, 13.1-13.4, 14.1-14.8, 15.1-15.3 and 15.5-15.9
  
• Quizzes and Tests: There will be Four (20 min) quizzes on Feb 1, Feb 15, March 22, April 24. There will be Two mid-term exams (80 min) on March 1 (Thursday) and April 10 (Tuesday). Make-up quizzes and tests are only given in extreme circumstances such as documented serious illness or personal circumstance. I must review such cases prior to the start of the test.
• Final Exam: May 1, 9am-12noon (same time as Math 111, 112)
  
• Add/drop deadline: January 26, Withdraw deadline: March 16
  
• Homework:  It is essential to do mathematics in order to learn it. There will be 7 biweekly homework assignments, which will be collected and graded. Note that you only turn in "required problems", and not the "optional" ones. Solution for all problems will also be available from Blackboard site after the homework is turned in. One lowest homework score will be dropped.
  
• Calculators: Electrical calculators are not forbidden but also not encouraged, and students can expect to take most tests and quizzes without a calculator. TI-83 or TI-84 graphing calculators (or comparable models) can be used in homework, quizzes; and exams, and TI-85 or above or calculators on mobile phones cannot be used in quizzes and exams.
  
• Computer software: Some online programs, applets and software Matlab will be used for demonstration, and students are also encouraged to use them for homework. The software are not needed for quizzes and exams.
• Attendance: Regular attendance is critical for your success in this course. I expect your presence at every lecture.
• Honor Code: Students will uphold William and Mary's stated honor code as it is written, any infractions will be referred to the Honor Council.
