Textbook:
The textbook for the course is
Elementary
Analysis: The Theory of Calculus
by
Kenneth A. Ross
(Springer, 2003). We will follow
it more or less closely. We will cover roughly Chapters 1 to 5, and
also Chapter 6 if we have time.
Homework: Homework problems
will be assigned from the textbook or additional problem sets, will be
collected each Thursday (due 5pm), and selected problems will be
graded about twice a week. It can be very useful to discuss your
homework assignments with other students in the class. However, please
make sure the final write-up is done on your own. One lowest homework
score will be dropped.
Quizzes and Final Exam:
There will be 5 (20 minute in-class or take-home) quizzes, 1 (in-class)
midterm exam (March 3) and 1 final exam
(May 4, 8:30-11:30am). Exams may have a take-home component. Make-up
exams are only possible in the case
of a documented medical excuse, a university-sanctioned absence (e.g.,
participation in a varsity sporting event),
or a family emergency. Please contact me at the earliest time possible
to schedule a
make-up.
